Experience
I am a math tutor with a master's degree in applied math from Purdue University and I've finished most of the work involved in earning my doctorate in pure mathematics from Northern Illinois University. I have been tutoring for four years and teaching for seven at institutions including Northern Illinois University, Wabaunsee Community College, and Ivy Tech Community College. The reviews I've received as a teacher are very positive. I have a passion for seeing my students succeed. My tutoring approach involves asking questions of my students in order to help them to master necessary concepts. I also relate the subject matter to things the students are familiar with. For example, I often use the natural sciences as a context to explore math. Differential equations and calculus are particularly interesting to me as subjects to tutor using these methods. I am available to tutor all levels of algebra and calculus, as well as differential equations, arithmetic, statistics, and trigonometry. In my spare time, I am a chef who enjoys making BBQ, ice cream, and pizza. Other interests of mine are watercolor painting, pottery, and reading science and history texts. My outside interests often prove useful as examples I can cite when I tutor!
